5 Things to do this Monsoon in Bangalore.

Bangalore, has always been a vibrant city. It breathes love and positivity. Being a native of this beautiful city, i just can’t get over how much i love it here. When those rain showers grace the city and the process of rejuvenation happens, Bangalore comes alive with more rigour. With these monsoons amidst us, here are the things that I will be doing this Monsoon.

1. Bajji Bonda at Central Tiffin Room (CTR) : This quaint, stuck in the 90’s place in Malleshwaram , is a haven for all your breakfast & mid evening snacking urges. The wafting aromas of the South Indian kitchen will have you head over heels. The Bajjis and Bondas here are just lipsmacking delicious. Hailed as one of the iconic restaurants of Bangalore, you must not skip on this one. You also must try their neer dosas, kesari bhath and Benne masala Dosa.

2. Rooh Yoga at Lahe Lahe : Lahe Lahe, has been synonymous for being innovative and always creative. Lahe Lahe, is a community of like minded individuals who take time out to indulge in interactive activities.

This time, they are conducting “Rooh Yoga” classes from 27 June – 6 Aug. The classes will commence at 6:30 am and will teach you “Yoga” under the Lahe Lahe roof albeit in a contemporary way, by Arooshi. Let’s do some yoga and watch the beautiful sunrise while doing so.

3. Rooftop Lunch or Dinner at High Ultra Lounge : Have a breathtakingly beautiful view and soak in the purple and warm yellow ambiance of highest fine dining venue in Southern India, at a staggering height of 421 sq. feet. Indulge in the city’s finest contemporary pan Asian cuisine and click some Instagram worthy pics here. You can’t enjoy Monsoon better! Also awarded as the best rooftop restaurant by EazyDiner, just a few days ago.

4. Tea Tasting at San-Cha Tea Boutique : India’s first tea boutique, that will have you go crazy with the sheer amount of tea variety available. What’s a monsoon without some tea and if the tea comes from San-Cha Tea Boutique, it’s bound to help you create Monsoon memories. The tea sommeliers will offer you complimentary tea tastings of over 65 varieties of teas.

5. Ameen Sayani Live in Concert 15 August 2018 : Whenever you hear the pitter patter of those raindrops, the first thing you want to do is, switch on some soul soothing music. With the era of “Bhule Bisre Geet” fading away to the din of the songs of today, this is a reprise, a moment to turn back the time and listen to India’s first Radio Jockey, “Mr. Ameen Sayani Sahab” who will present to us a melange of melodies from the yesteryears by talented singers and musicians. Make sure, that you do not miss this if you love your Monsoon melodies. This fundraiser show will be held at “Chowdiah Memorial Hall”.

6. Bonus point : Well, now that you’ve come this far, i’m gonna be letting you in on my perfect thing to do this Monsoon. Retail therapy. I will be immersing myself in some retail therapy by going to the ” Phoenix Shopping Festival 2018″. I’ve already visited them twice as i write and have been picking so many things up because 300+ brands are on a 50% or more off.

While I am, perambulating my surroundings, a breeze perfumed with the scent of blooms of jasmine, pirouettes by and the weather is a perfect brew of romance and warmth. The light trickle of water, leaves imprints on the facade and what a better way, to imbibe the feel of this monsoon, whilst flumping yourself comfortably in your chairs and indulging in some banqueting with your loved one, at “Monsoon- The Park” 



About Monsoon- The Park Hotels : 

The Park Hotels, are well known for their fine quality standards while entertaining their guests with the very best. “Monsoon” encompasses that very trait, it is a fine dine 24 hour restaurant that is proffering a spread of ” Italian & Pan-Indian” fare. Located at a prime location, stones throw away from a premium mall, Monsoon, is a perfect getaway if you are in the vicinity. 

Ambiance : 

The ambiance is an amalgamation of laid back & relaxing. The colour scheme, is a beautiful deep toned brown with specks of green, which instantly give you a cozy feel. The slow tempo of the music in the background, also helps you shrug off the cacophonous chatter in your mind. 




Hospitality: 

The service is extremely exemplary & that is not an exaggeration in any sense. The wait staff are groomed in impeccable fashion with pleasing demeanours. Special mention to our maitre d’s , ” Mr. Satish” & “Mr. Jyoti” for being ever so attentive & ever ready to please. The Chef “Mr. Pal”, was more than happy to come, when I personally wanted to meet him & thank him for whipping up one of the most delicious & true to roots ” Penne Alfredo”


The Grub Story: 

I, was here for their dinner buffet. I, will be therefore showcasing my favourites. Here was how it went:

Soup : 

Being a vegetarian, I went for the “warm creamy mushroom soup”. I, kid you not.. it was by far, the most delish mushroom soup I’ve had.


Salads : 

They had quite a few salads, but my favourite was the “Japanese Salad”, which was foamy soft with sour cream as the dressing. It had tangerines, lettuce & veggies. Mind blowing yum.


Drinks : 

The had the option of unlimited iced coffee or pineapple juice. I, chose the coffee of course. 



Starters: 

  • Paneer Tikka : Beautifully marinated squares of Paneer coated with the Masala & tandoored. 


  • Honey Chilli Potato: The slender Potato fries were tossed in a sweet spicy sauce. Delectable much.



Mains : 

They had a toothsome selection of parmigiana, Wok tossed noodles, Dum gosht biryani, pulao, mirchi ka salan, yam yeruval,etc


Desserts : 


  • Walnut tart with whipped cream: Trust me, the pastry was melt in the mouth. Crumbled into the mouth & was overtly delish. 


  • Apple Strudel : Done ever so lightly with the flaky phyllo pastry and with the slightest hints of cinnamon. This made my day. 


  • Apple cream Yoghurt: Another masterpiece, with light flavours but powerful punches.

Verdict : The dinner buffet at Monsoon, was a total heartwarming feast, with not one dish being below average. The emphasis is more on heroing elements and there isn’t a purge of too many flavours. Food stands tall & is absolutely worth the spot on pricing. Rates absolutely reasonable on the VFM meter. 

Priced at ₹1700/- for two (dinner buffet) that’s about ₹850/- per head. 

A well deserved 4.5/5 rating

Grapevine | Restaurant Review | HSR LAYOUT| Bangalore | 

Good Food is very often, even most often, simple food”- Anthony Bourdain. 

Yes, I hear you Anthony. You don’t need some food brouhaha for it to actually be ambrosial. Something simple, well as simple as Pizza, can be the one that gets you. 

About Grapevine : 

Situated in HSR, it seems almost like a piece of a Mediterranean noshery right here. Grapevine is an ambitious venture started by the mother daughter duo, who believe in proferring, extremely affordable and lip smacking fare to whet your appetite. 

Ambiance: The ambiance, is extremely relaxing with the teal and grey tones to calm your senses down. The little baubles strewn across, take the feel of the restaurant up by many notches. It’s a place you come by, to lose yourself. 

Hospitality: The staff are well groomed and cordial, they could definitely do better with being a tad more attentive to the customers need. 

The Grub Story : Being “The Pizza Month”, there were quite a few pizzas that we ordered. 

  • Cottage Cheese Croquettes (₹150/-) : A delicious strip of cottage cheese dipped in bread crumbs and fried. Loved the perfect crunchy exterior with the smoothness of that cheese. Must try.


  • Spanakopita (₹215/-): I was the most excited about this one, because i love the richness of the Greek pie. When im talking spanakopita, I’m thinking heavy & generous amounts of spinach and feta & crumbly filo pastry. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all that, it felt more of a Spinach sambousek. But, apart from that, it was delicious ❤️


  • Penne in Mushroom and Thyme sauce (₹255/-) : Nice and lightly tossed in a delicate sauce with aromatic Thyme & creamy mushroom. 

Pizzas : 

  • Mushroom & Burnt Garlic Pizza (₹235/-) : Oh! Goodness Gracious. What a delectable Pizza, with a thin yet soft base doused generously with mushroom & burnt garlic. Must try. 


  • Gluten Free Broccoli Pizza : This was a new introduction into their menu. The base is…wait for it… made out of broccoli. I just can’t even tell you, how good this is. You really must try it to believe it. 


  • Ripieno (₹250/-) : It’s a Pizza folded in half and baked to perfection. I had the veg version, made out of spinach, feta & mozzarella. Must must must try. 



Drinks & Desserts : 

  • Brownie Shake (₹215/-) : Made out of chocolate syrup, brownie crumble and chocolate ice cream. A little more thickness would’ve taken this up by many notches, but nevertheless fair enough. 



  • Nutella Oreo Cheesecake : They are collaborating their desserts, with “Cheesecake Alley”, and the desserts are just lip smacking. 


Here are a few others that I didn’t taste, but looked delicious.

Verdict : It’s a perfect place to unwind and relax with good food. The VFM factor is fair. The Pizza month is on, don’t forget to go indulge yourself in it. You could also win a free pizza, if your table has a secret card.

Coyla- Cababs & Curries| Four points by Sheraton | Whitefield | Bangalore | 

You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces- just good food from fresh ingredients”- Julia Child

And, as i flopped down in my seat and helped my self to some second servings, Julia’s words rung true. It really isn’t always about being positively baroque all the time, sometimes you just crave for something analogous to your roots. 


About Coyla : 

Coyla- Four Points By Sheraton, is a relatively new venture, by Sheraton. As we all know, Sheraton, is no newbie when it comes to exemplary hospitality and calibre. Coyla, is a beautiful rooftop restaurant which tries to caress your cares away, with its ambiance. Coyla (Charcoal in Hindi), is synonymous with Indian cuisine and even more so with North Indian, Punjabi Cuisine. The Head Chef, “Mr. Rajesh” is a true blue Punjabi, so you can expect a hearty dose of Punjabi spices. The menu, has been curated by none other than the celebrity chef, “Sweety Baluja”, himself.


Ambiance : 

The ambiance is a perfect mix of rustic and calm. The open kitchen, let’s you gawk in awe at your food being tossed around. The atmosphere sets the perfect mood for a nice laid back evening and if you have that special someone- it’s romantic. 



Hospitality :

I, personally loved being pampered by the staff, who are ever so attentive yet do not interfere with your dine in experience. Special mention to “Mr. Animesh”, who was a perfect host. 


The Grub Story : 

Appetisers : 

  • Baans aur Singhade ke Cabab (₹449/-) : A delicately in house spiced pan seared bamboo shoot and water chestnut gallette. The delectable crunch and the textural play, made this one of my favourites. Unique, yet very true to Punjabi flavours. 


  • Paneer Tikka Angare (₹449/-): A fiery, spicy cottage cheese sandwich with golden garlic and caramelised onions and finished into charcoal spit. The spice level was quite high on this one. True to it’s name, it was angare alright. 


  • Sarson wali Broccoli (₹449/-) : Broccoli which was doused generously in a spicy and tangy kasundi or mustard paste and tandoored. Loved the firm bite of the Broccoli, which wasn’t lost during its time in the tandoor.


  • Murgh Tangdi Peshawari (₹549/-): This was a unanimous favourite amongst the non vegetarians. The drumsticks were sliced opened and filled with cheese and green chillies and allowed to be roasted in tandoor. What a magnificent sight to see the cheese, melt and slowly drip. 



Main Course :

  • Makhanwala Ghar Ka Paneer (₹399/-) : The juicy cubes of Paneer were tossed and doused in the silky butter laden tomato based gravy. What a delight, those clean flavours were. A little tang and a lot of desi ghee love paired with a delicious warqui paratha made your day. 


  • Amritsari Pindi Chole (₹399/-) : The Pindi Chole, were good & basically the run of the mill kinds. Nothing extraordinary but yes, very homely and warm. Went great with the Taftaan. 


  • Maa Rajma Makhanwali Daal (₹349/-): Oh my goodness! I’m living for this. I, would love to visit “Coyla”, just for this. What clean & ambrosial flavours. When things are made in desi ghee, it just goes up by notches. Must must must try. 


Drinks : 

  • Virgin Mojito : Something I need to cleanse palate, love it. 


  • Signature Chocolate & Grape Mocktail: What a great blend of flavours, the sourness of grapes coupled with the sweetness of chocolate & Demerara sugar! Unique & worth a try.

Verdict : The 3 main factors were ticked during my visit- Service, Ambiance & Food. I, enjoyed the demure evening with flavourful food. 

Coyla gets a 4.5/5 rating.

Go Native | Restaurant / Boutique Review| Jayanagar | Bangalore | 

Going back to a simpler life, is not a step backward” – yvon chouinard

And how true does that message of empowerment sound? We all vow, to go eco, go green, blah blah..blah! But, how many times do we really take a small step towards doing something for the environmental betterment and make eco-friendly lifestyle changes, which stay put not for a month or two but for a lifetime? Not many.. 

Umm.. no! Buying an eco friendly deodorant doesn’t count as “Going Green”. So, this other day, my luck gave way and I had an experience which will sit with me, for quite sometime. I, chanced upon this gem named “Go Native”. 


About Go Native : 

Go Native, stand by their motto “Eat, Play & Live Sustainably”. That very motto, resonates with each and every element of “Go Native”. You are welcomed by refurbished furniture, displays of organic food, organic cosmetics, handloom weaves, handicrafts and books. It really is a sanctuary within itself. It’s the concept that bowled me over. The ground floor, is dedicated to the theme of Play & Live sustainably and the first floor is dedicated to eating sustainably (there is some retail therapy here as well) . It’s a perfect souvenir shop, to pick up your curios, mementos or to really redesign your living with their upcycled goodies. 



The food is sourced from organic sources and they follow the simpleton module “Farm to Table”, where they directly procure and quality check each and every element which goes into their food. Even the menu, is made out of recycled paper. The menu is extensively Karnataka with a few influences from neighbouring states. 


Ambiance : 

I’m guilty of being superfluous with my language to describe how much, I love this place. It’s quirky, a haven, a sanctuary, a treasury for all good things. The ambiance is unmistakably rustic and peaceful and if you’re with the right person, very romantic as well. 


Hospitality: 

My review, would be of no use if I miss out on our hostess of humble disposition- Miss. Anvita, who is a charming young lady with very strong and dedicated ideals. The staff is well groomed and are nimble on their feet. 

The Grub Story

Now, we are talking.. Aren’t we? 

Drinks : They have a splendid selection of Teas, Coffees, Cold Pressed Juices and smoothies. The teas are from the well known organic brand “Teabox”. 

  • Vitamin Booster (₹150/-) : A medley of carrot, lime, parsley, chia seeds, orange & tender coconut. Super healthy and if you’re in the healthy living sphere, you will love it. 


Soups : 

  • Pumpkin & Orange Soup (₹95/-) : Goodness Me!! I loved it. Nothing could be better than this for a start. If you like your soups creamed, look no further. The silky almost playful texture of the pumpkin, along with the subtle acidity of orange made this the highlight for me. The spices are perfect for me, I like them bland 👍🏻


  • Carrot, Coconut & Ginger Soup (₹95/-): Perfect for a beautiful rainy day, with the heat of spices warming you up. 

Starters: 

  • Mangalore Buns (₹95/-) : For people who haven’t had a chance to try this, you’ve no idea, how much you’re missing out on life. They were just perfect, the slightest touch breaks them up, the most spongiest bite.. Ahh!! Delicious 😋 


  • Aloo Patha Bhindi Chaat (₹125/-) : A Melange of flavours, bursting with harmony. This is a true Indian street food, definition but with a healthy twist. It has potato cubes, delectable thick yogurt, mint and tamarind chutney and crispy spinach leaves with crispy okra. Each flavour stood out as it enveloped your senses in a happy mood. 


  • Banana Flower Baked Skewers (₹145/-): Quite a nice textural play over there, with a mushy as well as grainy texture to titillate your taste buds. Went really well, with the chutney it came with. 


Mains : 

  • Palak Khichdi (₹160/-) : A delectable dish made out of red rice, puréed spinach and raw papaya salad. The red rice was soaked so well with the spinach purée, it seemed like the match was made in heaven with perfect balance of flavours. The dish heroed “Spinach” & that’s exactly what I wanted. 


  • Masala Jolada Roti Yangai (₹160/-): The soft sorghum flatbread flavoured with masalas and served with a delectable Aubergine curry & sprouts salad, was yet another feather in the cap. Who said healthy isn’t delicious? 


  • Soppu Neer Dosa (₹160/-) : A paper thin crepe (Dosa) made out of spinach and served with coconut gassi, made quite a mark. A little more thinner would’ve been taken this up by a notch, but I’m not complaining. 


  • Ragi Pizza (₹180/-): Yes, the Finger Millet Pizza, was just as good as any other thin crust pizza. It had more texture and the toppings were so generous. Just this, on its own is filling. 


  • Go Native special Thali (₹200/-): An assortment of roti, pappad, rice, veg curry, salad and palya. 


Desserts : 

  • Matka Vanilla Pudding with Gulab Jamun (₹175/-): Oh yes!! This was one of those delish desserts you must try. A subtle vanilla pudding when dugout, revealed a subtle Gulab Jamun full of flavour. You must be thinking, it must be sugary sweet, but it’s quite the opposite. The sweet content is very muted and they manage to keep it low key 👍🏻


  • Millet Pancakes (₹150/-) : Ragi pancakes, served with banana, vanilla ice cream and muesli. This one, again was one of my favourites. Do make sure that you consume it as soon as it arrives. The softness retains or else, you will have to prepare yourself, for a war along with your artillery against the pancake. As the nachni/ragi/ Finger millet in the pancake, will harden it up the longer you leave it untouched.

Verdict : This place, is just an amazing little wonderland, I love the fact that it’s one of those “guilt free” institutions that advocate and promote “The 3R’s” , “Reduce,Reuse &Recycle”. 

You feel good, for whatever choices you made for visiting this store. Do check their organic food section. I’m in love with the “HUDA Vegan Bars” over here. The food as well, is rustic and has a keen eye for “Nutritional value”.

Go Native gets a 4.5 star

Paperboat Drinks; Reviewing Memories.

So, just about how many of us have obdurately held onto a few pleasures, which time and again, transcend you back to the vivid & hazy memories of “uniform pinafores, tennis shoes, dusty basketballs, chapped knees, lost water bottles, that pedagogue we all were scared of & secrets in the school bus?” Do I see a smile?? Oh yes! Please read on..

I’m sure all of us have those few magic paraphernalias which stimulate that nostalgia. For some, it’s the smell of bread baking, for some the smell of wet earth, for some it it’s a charm bracelet & for some it’s a retro song. 

While, I have literally tens & tens of stuff to remind me of childhood, there are but only a few things to remind me of our vacays in India. Like, Papa’s handmade card for my birthday, which I would have been celebrating in India during our vacay ( Which never came on my birthday anyway & came 3 days after papa arrived to India, to escort us back ), Hajmolas, Golas, Chaats & Jaljeera. 

Hajmolas are these little button sized chewable tablets, which make you pucker like crazy. Golas are crushed ice Popsicles with syrup. Chaats are sweet-savoury assortments. Jaljeera is a cumin drink, much like a palate cleanser & an aid to digestion.

Imagine the happiness I felt, when I saw “Paperboat drinks”. They have a very apt liner which says, “Drinks and Memories”. This stands staunchly true, when you gulp down those first mouthfuls. Apart from the super cute matte doypack with a spout, the names and their pictorial representations were just really the start. The true conundrum lies in picking your favourite, choosing a few to take back home, leaving the rest on that shelf with a heavy heart. Just how, pray tell me how, does one choose between good memories? How does one choose between reliving a giggle with a cousin, whilst tasting what Jaljeera is for the first time & reliving the excitement of purloining your grandma’s coins for Golas? 

I’m a heartfelt hoarder when it comes to “Paperboat”, I’m compulsive buying by the tens. I, get mum her favourite memories & i get me mine. Slowly, both of us have started exchanging memories now 😁😁

  • Kokum
  • Kala khatta
  • Tulsi tea( mum’s favourite  actually, this was what papa had concocted up for her, when she first landed in Saudi Arabia) ❤️❤️

By that, it doesn’t mean that, i don’t fancy others. Why, I do.. But when these are around, it’s really hard to overlook them.

  • They taste amazing great, all of them. Period. 
  • They are packed with benefits for you, like Kokum helps in cholesterol management, anti-inflammatory etc. 
  • The are priced at Rs.30/- , which let’s face it, is pretty dead cheap. 
  • They are great during travels, so convenient to carry around. 
  • The matte doypack with the spout, is just super quirky cute. Look at those pictorials!! 😍😍 
  • They are preservative & artificial flavours free.. 💃🏻💃🏻
  • All are 250ml pouches.

Hmmm.. Yep!! That’s that! Im relishing a nice Kokum now, what about you?

Nando’s Peri-Peri,Extra Hot Chilli Sauce- Product Review.

Now who fancies some piping hot, let me whistle like a steam ship, blazing ear twitchy, confident turtle posing kinda hotness in their dish? You do?? Sorry, I don’t!! 

Now as the law of nature or my genetic composition would have it, I was supposed to be born with an innate & nascent ability to savour, relish & dream about high spice & hotness factor (I’m an Indian after all) , we are from a country where the “Ghost Chilli Pepper” aka “Bhoot Jolokia” is grown in your backyard with subtle coriander. Alas!! destiny had other plans and i ended up with a palate for low spice tolerance. Accidental gulping of a sliver or two of green chilli, has more often than not sent me transforming from your plain Jane to Incredible Sulk.. Oops!! I meant Hulk.. Well, its just pretty much the same blistering barnacle stuff. Me with chilli in the mouth = Hulk =Sulk. 

” So, why the Chilli Sauce review outta all the things on earth, I’m sure you got more issues than Vogue to handle? ” says you. 

For starters, you need to cut that sarcasm out. 😒😒 Now, why this post outta all things on earth is because, apparently, alot of my dishes these days are getting a little peri-peri in them. So, I thought, hey why not.. I could surely share my ex-PERI-ence with you. 

  

I’ve had my fair share of red chilli sauces & they all have had a very tolerable level. Plonk & splash them in Indo-Chinese dishes & Viola! I never had the guts to try something with blazing Scoville Heat Units, until I was presented with the “Nando’s Peri-Peri Extra Hot Chilli Sauce”.

  

My common sense warned me against it, it said ” Frigging” Extra Hot, for crying out loud. 

  

And then just like that one day, i opened it up. The first thing I noticed was how flowy the sauce was. That kinda put me off. I mean, here I am.. literally, imaginary barfing my guts out at the thought of something HOT & I see, this meek & feeble sauce hello-ing back at me.

“Greetings and Salutations, ye meek one” says me.

I take a whiff of it & again it’s something that’s pretty vinegary, light capsaiciny & garlicky kinda aroma. It’s nice & subtle. 

“Ummm.. Okay!”

I muster up all the courage I have and just get a few mls on the spoon & I let it gently slide down my tongue into my throat. I’m expecting the darn thing to burn & scar me for ages. Guess what? I doesn’t. 

  

Yes, you read that right. It doesn’t!! It has a midsized punch, but nothing & absolutely nothing about this sauce is “Extra Hot”. I’d say, it’s in between mild & hot . Yes. Though I have low tolerance to hot peppers, this one wasn’t so bad. It stung like how all chilli sauces do, but didn’t make me run for a glass of milk. 

Let me put it this way, the sauce was hot enough to be calmed down with a glass of water. And, if you know your peppers, then you obviously know that.. The higher the Scoville Heat Unit, the faster you need to reach for a glass of milk for the effect to neutralise. Water doesn’t do much. 😝😝

It’s as good as your standard TABASCO sauce. 

  

Hence, after that day i tried the sauce in a lot of dishes actually. In curries, marinations, baguettes, etc.  it was just the superb compliment to my sandwiches. I found myself using it even in Indian cuisine. 

Brief Insights:

  • Mild to hot sauce.
  • Not for people who love it damn hot, a blessing for folks like me. 
  • Uses African Bird Eye chilli, which isn’t very high on capsaicin content.
  • Tastes like TABASCO just a little thicker & tad bit more flavourful. 
  • Is MSG, additives, gluten, preservatives free. So, it’s quality that we are talking about here.
  • Works on almost everything that needs some heat. 
  • Priced at an exorbitant Rs.420/-
  • You can find sauces at much easier prices, which taste pretty much the same, but maybe wouldn’t come with the preservative, MSG, additives & Gluten free tag.

Verdict: I, personally loved the sauce. It hit at the right spot for me. It did bring out the heat without scarring me for life, that being said, it is on the higher end of the pricing spectrum. You can find sauces, for half of that price & yet have all the qualities that this bottle has & much more. If pricing wasn’t an issue, then I’d be very keen on restocking over & over again.

Happy You, Happy Me,Koramangla-A cafe review.

When was the last time that you found yourself at a noshery aka bistro aka cafe & actually pondered, whether you were out of the dark ages of inflation? The ages of inflation, where even a small cup of coffee in a cafe will try to behave like that  ” Annoying Cousin” of yours… Someone, who puts up his/her price much more than what they are worth. 😒😒 During these dark ages, comes a knight in shining armour of unfazing glory, with quite an apt name I must say. ” Happy You, Happy Me”. Read on to know what I mean: 

  

I was invited over, by my extremely warm & beautiful hostess  “Neha”, who went along with her dream to get into the “Food Industry” & found herself setting up a quaint little nook in one of the busy streets of ” Koramangala”. A marketing professional & mum to a beautiful daughter, who found solace in being an entrepreneur. When you talk to Neha, you can’t help but notice the love she has for her establishment, it’s like the twinkle of her eye… Much like her little one,  Nandini. 

  

The place isn’t a sprawling 20 table one, rather it’s humble 4-5 table big. But.. That being said.. Happy you happy me, literally reminded me of my storybooks & childhood fantasies. I’ve always wanted to have a little space for myself in the house (apart from my playroom), where I could escape to, which had sentiments of “Alice in Wonderland”. A place that wouldn’t be too big but would be bright at any point of the day.

  

Well, though “Happy You,Happy Me”, isn’t a page from “Alice in Wonderland”, it surely did satiate my fancy.  The place is filled with splotches of colour & fun. Quirky yet comfortable & relaxing yet peppy, is how I would describe the decor & ambience of this place. 

  

They have curated a menu which has major emphasis on ” Short eats & quick bites”. You have burgers, pastas, muffins, cutlets, beverages etc. The pricing is just unbelievable, I mean, I’m like sitting there and thinking ” How on earth, can anyone be so honest with pricing?”

   

 They don’t charge a buck more than what they think is fair, ergo the introductory reference.

  

The staff are so lovely to chat up with, very prompt & on call. Another thing I noticed is the hygiene at this place. I,really appreciate the high hygiene standards, everything is just so spic & span over here. They serve your food in Eco-Friendly plates, so rest assured about the hygiene aspect. 

Anyhow, Let me take you through the meal sampling;

1. Pasta Alfredo (Rs.60/-) : The Pasta served to me was fresh, light, filled with veggies I love & fair enough. The penne was al dente & the sauce was just the lightest one I’ve had in a long time. The flavours of the veggies, just came through. I was surprised to find broccoli & baby corn! For Rs.60?? Wow!!! And it wasn’t just some measly serving, it was very filling too. 

   

 2. Barbeque Chicken Burger  : It’s much better called as a mini burger. A lightly barbecued chicken, which looks peppery and juicy, with lettuce & mayo enclosed within a small bun. The hubby says it tasted quite homey & was nice.

  

3. Chicken croquette (Rs.15/-) : The chicken croquettes are the in house speciality. They weren’t dry or mushy. These petite cylinders where filled with flavour as according to hubby. 

  

4. Pesto Grilled Sandwich(Rs.45/-)  : The grilled sandwich on its own was such a pleasing sight. Grilled nice & golden, with that crunch that you expect from such sandwiches. The pesto was such a treat to eat & it came under Rs.50/- The pesto sandwich had this beautiful herby & fresh feel, which when complimented with the sauces provided on your plate just made it complete. A must have!!

   

 5. Orange Chocolate Cake: Another, from one home to another eat. A decent enough quick bite. 

  

6. Lemongrass Lemonade (Rs.20/-) :Oh!! The name.. 😍😍 The most fun part was just looking at those glass jars filled with that gorgeous lemonade. When it came to the table, yes.. It tasted really refreshing. 

  

7. Oreo milkshake (Rs.40/-): A little too sweet for my liking, but it’s my folly.. I should’ve told them that I like things a little toned down. My little one gulped it happily though ❤️❤️

  

8. Mutton Potato Chop: Hubby said, it completely reminded him of Ramadaan shorteats at home. A potato cutlet filled with mutton mince. 👍🏻

  

9.Cheesy Corn Bites: I was surprised to find a nice spicy green chilli mix in the midst of the Corn. This would work pretty great, if they try fusing this with a chaat. Yumm!!

  

A note that I would like to make is that, almost everything on the menu is very homey. It’s a cafe, where you can actually feel, that this isn’t something from warehouse to store kind, rather it’s a home cook’s humble venture. Neha makes the beverages, bakes the muffins & cakes & makes the little fried goodies.

They’re just a few weeks old & they are doing quite a commendable job at running the place. 

The VFM as stated before is crazy good. A meal for 2 should put you back by Rs.250/-

Verdict: If you’re in the area and wanna grab a quick bite, or its lunch hour & you’ve had enough of juice junction or you just forgot your assignment at home & have to bunk  class… Drop in here & refresh your mind, after all, food solves almost everything 😁😁 Take this from your Ex-JNC’ite aka Senior 😂😂

Hello Panda.. Product Review. 

” I just want a Hello Panda!”, i shriek. 

I had been giving mum a hard time, whenever i would’ve had the “Hello Panda” craving. Oh!! Just incase, you’re wondering.. This was when i was 5 years old or so. I don’t do that to my mum anymore.. I do it to the hubbykins. 😁

  

Hello Panda has been one of my delectable & be-a-good girl treat. I would barge into “Safeway” & “Farm 9” and load them up in the cart, along with pink boxes of “Almond Roca” & white boxes of “Rafaello”. 

Fast forward that to 2015 and my son does the same thing. It’s something that I smile like a buffoon about. Hello Panda has very successfully managed to connect one generation to another. Though it’s come quite late to India, it’s a fresh start for sure. This comes with a “Kid Magnet” I presume, I mean which kid doesn’t love this stuff ?

  

Hello Panda is a Japanese brand, manufactured by “Meiji”. They basically are your shortbread cookies, filled with Chocolate, Vanilla or Strawberry cream. The cookies are shaped into blunt puffy panda heads, with pictorial depictions of the main character “Panda” on them. On some he’s fencing, on some he’s playing soccer, on some he’s swimming & henceforth. Whatever he’s doing, he’s one helluva sporty Panda for real. 

I, personally love the chocolate filling ones. Yumm.. & it’s been my favourite ever since I was a kid.

  

They are a very subtle combination of shortbread cookies & chocolate ganache. They are crunchy, buttery & light on the outside & give forth a flowy, silky chocolate cream filling when you bite into it. Not only do they melt in the mouth, they will very certainly melt your heart too. The taste, is nice, but is a little less richer & chocolaty than what I used to eat as a kid. Either the recipe has been re-formulated or the one that retails in India is just that way.

Brief insight on Hello Panda: 

  • Coin sized shortbread cookies, filled with chocolate, vanilla or strawberry cream.
  • Packaged in super cute hexagonal boxes, which are super attractive specially for the kids. 
  • They taste just delicious. 
  • They cost you 80 calories for 4 cookies, which is amazeballs unbelievable because, “OMG! You be so tiny cookie”. Either I embrace you or I say a good-yet-sad bye. 😢😢 
  • They are priced at Rs.70/- per box & I guess each box would have about 10- 15 cookies or so. When I was a kid, these retailed for SR.2/- & I’m pretty sure it’s still that much back in the Middleeast.
  • 3 flavours to choose from. 
  • Perfect for a kiddy treat every once in a while. 

Verdict: As long as you don’t get yourself or your kid addicted to it, go ahead & bulk buy it 😁😁 Enjoy!!
